GENEVA – Geneva Council for Human Rights and Justice (GCHRJ) has strongly condemned on Tuesday, the killing of 18 Yemeni fishermen in the Yemeni province  Hodeidah by the Saudi-Emirati coalition in Yemen.

GCHRJ said in a press statement that the fishermen had been killed in the Red Sea as a result of the bombing of an allied warship in the coastal province of Hodeidah.

The Council described the incident as a war crime against civilians who are seeking their livelihood and cannot be justified in any way. It pointed out that dozens of Yemeni fishermen have already been killed during the military escalation of the alliance in Hodeidah.

It stated that the incident came after the announcement of UAE of launching an extensive military operation aimed at taking control of Hodeida of Ansar Allah (Houthis), by supporting Yemeni forces to move towards the city.

The Council expressed its fears of committing more massacres in Hodeida in the light of the insistence of the coalition to control the province without paying attention to the high humanitarian costs expected.

GCHRJ pointed to the killing of fishermen in Hodeida comes in a long series of massacres committed by the coalition against civilians in Yemen, such as an air strike carried out by the coalition in August last killed dozens of civilians, including 40 children.
